"E - Extension"
Rev. Randy Strickland
Paul is talking about his desire that the Jews become followers of Jesus. He talks about the fact there
are certain things that are part of our confession that indicates that we are saved. Then he presents the
questions: if they do not hear, if no one tells them, if no one is sent to tell them, how will they know,
how will they respond to God? Being sent out from our LIFE Groups, we are called to share the message of
God’s salvation and love. It is part of who we are and who God has made us. We are to join the head of the
church, Christ, in doing the work that He does, the work that He has prepared us to do. Small groups help us
to share our God-given mission in the world.

"I - Intercessory Prayer"
Rev. Randy Strickland
This is a prayer by Paul that stands as an example of interceding for others in prayer.
And what Paul prays for for the Thessalonians, characterizes the spirit people need to have to pray in an intercessory way for others.
Small groups give us the opportunity to put to use one of the greatest parts of the Christian arsenal—prayer.
And we can add in here that like-minded prayer by like-minded people makes a real difference.
Prayers for the church, for the world, for others changes things—and it changes us.

"F - Friendship"
Rev. Randy Strickland
From a short letter that people rarely quote or read! Here we see Paul celebrating the love and faith and
exhortation of Philemon. All of these--and more—characterize friends in relationship to one another as we
grow deeper in love and care for one another. Christians must be this way with one another and being in a
group together helps us develop this. Finally, Paul points out the encouraging nature of Philemon when he
says of him “you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints" (Christians). LIFE groups emphasize
relationships and use the strengths of relationships to uplift and undergird the members of the groups.
