Deaf Ministry

Conway UMC is one of the few churches in the Orlando area whose Sunday services are interpreted using American Sign Language.  We also have tactile signing (signing in the hands for deaf/blind).

“Signs from Heaven” is a class designed to allow discussion and the teaching of God’s message for both the hearing and deaf community.  It is held at 9:45 am in the Family Life Center, Room 103 every Sunday.

If you are interested in learning to sign, we have classes to learn American Sign Language on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00pm. These classes start in August and run through Octover, ending with a silent dinner. The classes pick up again in January and run through March. We have both beginning and advanced classes.  New participants are welcome to join any time.  Classes are held in Rooms 102 and 103 of the Family Life Center.

Our sign language class expands into a dynamic signing choir that participates with the Chancel Choir in seasonal programs such as the Easter and Christmas cantatas.

Deaf Ministry Outings – Once a month, the deaf ministry group schedules outings to various locations around central Florida. We also celebrate Deaf Awareness Week in September.  Read about this year's celebration  here

If you have questions about any of the deaf ministry programs, or would like more information on how to be a part of this ministry, contact Mary Harris, Jr. through the church office for more information.
