Service Opportunities

Part of being a Christian is reaching out to others with the love of Christ.  Conway has many opportunities for you to share your talents, your love of the Lord, and your passion for helping others.  Check out some of these opportunities, or consider starting one of your own!

Reach UP

Reach UP is an afterschool program for Conway Middle School students.  We provide them with a loving environment to work on their homework to improve their grades.  The students walk over every day after school and stay until 5:30pm.  They are provided with time for snacks, to do homework, and free time.

Our goal is to provide these students with the support and resources they need to overcome challenges that they face.  Daily activities and special programs are planned that help the students achieve academically, grow spiritually, and build their character.

Volunteers work with the students with their homework, enjoy recreation time together like playing basketball, or teach them new skills such as cooking.  We are always looking for additional volunteers who are willing to give of themselves to help these students grow in the love of Christ.

Blanket Ministry

The Blanket ministry creates blankets for needy children and senior adults.   This mission group has distributed over 4,000 quilts since 2001.  Small blankets go to several Orange County Public Schools, various nursing and rehab centers, Russell Home, BETA, and Harbor House.  Volunteers who can sew or tie quilts at home are welcome.  We meet Tuesdays at 9:00am in the Education Building. We also accept donations of fabric and/or thread.

Thrift Shop

Conway is part of an interfaith hospitality network that provides emergency housing and meals for homeless families with children.  Approximately four times per year, families stay at our church and receive our hospitality in the form of warm beds, nutritious meals, and helpful, friendly, welcoming hosts.  For more information about how to get involved, contact Alison Whitney at 407-615-1080 or through the church office.  For more information on Family Promise, look here.

The Florida United Methodist Children's Home is located in the Metro Orlando area on the north side of Lake Monroe in the town of Enterprise (near Deltona).   The children's home performs numerous mission work that includes a large residential campus for children to live temporarily or for the long term, transition homes for those teens that are legally ejected from the child protective domain, thus giving these still maturing young adults a leg up before total independent living, child and family counseling, urgent situation care, and as a segment of the children's home - foster care placement.  For more information, check here.

Conway supports this ministry through a 5th Sunday offering plus a special offering in December.  We also support their annual Day on Campus through volunteer efforts before and the day of the event, as well as visiting the campus. By visiting the campus, we have the opportunity to meet with the children and get a personalized tour of their group home life as you walk through the cottages and living spaces.  It is a memorable experience.

Our thrift shop is run by our UMW group.  It is open every Wednesday, 9:30am - 1:00pm.  Donations are accepted at the church office.
